We made it to the final — and I just want to say thank you.

At some point over the past few months, someone quietly nominated The Structural Battery Company for Defence Innovator of the Year at the Innovation Awards 2025. We still don’t know who it was, but I hope you’re reading this — because I want to thank you.
And thank you, too, if you voted for us. We know your time is precious, and it means a great deal that you took a moment to support what we’re building.
Because of that support, we were invited to the final judging stage — a panel interview with three independent judges. It wasn’t a formal pitch, just a conversation about what our innovation is, why it matters, and how we see the UK holding its own as a hotbed of innovation.
We spoke about our structural battery technology — how it’s enabling safer, lighter, and more sustainable power systems in defence and aerospace. But we also spoke about the organisation behind it — a small, bootstrapped team doing big things with limited resources. Like many early-stage companies, we’ve had people come and go — not because they didn’t believe, but because their financial commitments eventually outpaced the pitiful pay we’ve been able to offer. And yet, we couldn’t have come this far without them. Everyone who’s contributed to our journey deserves part of this recognition.
We’ve also survived by trading what we have for what we value — and it’s not always money. Sometimes it’s reputation. Sometimes it’s computer modelling. Sometimes it’s advice, introductions, or a belief shared at just the right moment. These partnerships — formal and informal — have helped us keep moving, keep building, and keep improving.
The winners will be revealed at the Awards Ceremony on 21st November. But in truth, we already feel like winners — because we’re still here, still building, and still surrounded by people who believe in what we’re doing.
Thank you again.
